Aquarelle is the French word for watercolor. An Aquarelle Pencil is also a type of water soluble colored pencil.

Aquarelle pencils can be used like ordinary colored pencils. The finished artwork can then be given delicate watercolor wash effects by washing with a wet brush or a damp tissue. The colors tend to be weak, and there is some question over their permanence, but they are popular with designers and illustrators for their unique abilities.
