Banker - Work Bench

A banker is a very sturdy work bench primarily used by sculptors or stone masons.

The sandstone slab is for carving & hammeringThis is a piece of art equipment that is easily constructed yourself, however It should be strong enough to hold the weight of stone and be stable enough to handle hammering, pounding and pushing whilst you are carving stone.

The base of a banker is commonly made from thick hardwood posts, or welded iron. The surface is generally wood, however a stonemason will sometimes add a piece a solid sandstone to form the work bench surface (pictured) alternatively if you are sculpting stone in detail its a good idea to additionally use sand bags to provide a buffer, as well as additional support to stop movement which will prevent accidental damage to the sculpture whilst you work on it.
