Blistering
Blistering refers to an effect on a painted surface. When paint blisters, small cracks, wrinkles, or blisters form on the paint surface, it is generally caused by: (a) Moisture in the underlying surface, or underlying coat of paint; this normally occurs when a coat of paint has been applied before the previous coat of paint was dry. (b) Excessive heat after the application of paint. Such as painting a hot surface whilst in the sun!
Blistering is also often called 'orange peel'.
Some artists purposely try to create a blistering paint effect and it is popular in decorative painting, as it is similar to the Crackle Technique, see; Crackle Medium.
