Block Printing
Block Printing is a common term that refers to many forms of relief printmaking but particularly to the raised relief print.
Block Printing is perhaps most commonly used when referring to the woodblock printmaking technique. Wood blocks are cut by hand from fine grained soft woods, another common from of block printing and one that gives similar effect to wood blocks is the lino cut printmaking technique where the block is cut from a sheet of linoleum.
Other forms of block printmaking are created by using found objects such as leaves & fabric, these naturally occurring raised surfaces are glued onto a firm backing support which then forms the printing block a soft roller can then be used to ink the relief surface.
