Burnt Sienna

An orange brown pigment absolutely light fast, suitable for all media and one of the most valuable colors on the palette. Mined and calcined (burnt) for at least 4,000 years, by the middle ages there was a large industry for it near Sienna, hence the name. Hugely valuable in making vibrant skin tones and with ultramarine for making the sort of greys found in skin shadows it is also essential to the landscapist, or anyone for that matter who loves beauty. If I had to choose just 2 or 3 colors only, Burnt Sienna would be on my short list.
