Easel (Darkroom)
When talking about darkroom equipment an easel is a simple device that sits under the enlarger. Its purpose it to both hold the photo paper flat and define the edge of the area being exposed to the light.
There are two main types available;
-
A Bladed Easel
These have two adjustable metal 'wings' or 'blades' that can be moved to increase or minimize the dimensions of the photographic paper being exposed to light.
The bladed ones can be handy for custom sized photographic prints, or for more creative uses where the enlarger itself is used as a tool for art making.
-
Set Frame Easel
More commonly used are those with singe set frame size like 8x10 or 5x7 that is hinged, it can be lifted up and put down, and remains the same dimensions always.
This kind of darkroom equipment can be purchased from any good Photography Supplies Store or for more information about working in a dark room see: Darkroom Setup List.
