Monotype

A form of Printmaking. Monotype Prints are the simplest and most affordable of all serious printmaking methods it was a favourite of Degas, it’s great master. A high portion of his famous ‘pastels’ are actually pastel over monotype.

It is the only serious printmaking method that requires no specialised or expensive equipment. Put a drawing on a table, put a piece of glass over it. Following the lines of the drawing, use brush or sponge to apply etching ink (although ordinary oil paint also works) put a piece of paper over it, rub from the back with a baren or wooden spoon and voila: a print.
