Ochre or ocher

Ochre is a hard clay like pigment, a substance that is taken straight from the earth and not refined in anyway. It is ground down and mixed with water to create a guiche like paint. Ochure comes in variosu shades of Orange, Red, Brown, White, Charcoal may also be added to create darker shades. Ochre is the traditional form of paint used by Australian Aboriginals.
