The large oval wooden palette is practical. Colors should be laid out in a consistent logical manner from white to dark/cool. A typical example: white, cad yellow light, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, cad red, permanent alizarin, ultramarine, pthalo green. Some artists prefer to mix on a white surface. Ceramic white plates can be a practical alternative to the traditional slab of white marble or white glass.
