Paper Clay
Paper clay is any type of clay, where refined plant fiber has been mixed into the clay body usually paper.
Paper clay is similar to Saw Dust Clay, however Paper Clay is almost always highly refined and therefore very fine in texture.
Paper clay is porous and strong when dry. It is an interesting medium as it enables quite unique sculpture techniques. For example when working with Paper Clay you can join dry-to-dry Paper Clay and dry-to-wet Paper Clay. A new form of sculpture has also emerged where by artists are combining paper forms and clay art traditions to great effect.
Paper clay behaves the same as conventional clays in the kiln, once fired it can be glazed and painted. Additionally like conventional clays, it can be carved when wet or dry.
Paper Clay can be purchased from Sculpture Supply Stores.
