Play Dough
Play Dough, or otherwise known by the famous name brand Play Doh. Is a easily made, non toxic sculpting material. It's found fame as a popular form of entertainment for young children, however sculptors often use forms of Play Dough to create scale models of major sculptural works and it has a mired of other uses for art.
Play Dough is so much fun, you can mould it, pound it, color it, cook it, freeze it, dry it and paint it... and yes some kids eat it! There are many Play Dough recipes, the basic one is below.
How to make Play Dough:
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon oil
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1 teaspoon of food coloring
Sift the flour, add the salt and then mix all the ingredients together. In a medium saucepan stir over a low heat until smooth. Remove from pan and knead well. Separate into various quantities and add food coloring then knead again. Place the finished Play Dough in an airtight container when cooled.
