Printmaking
Printmaking has had a longer history in the Orient than in the West. From the high Renaissance when engraving first was invented, European artists have turned the reproductive techniques into creative vehicles, although we should never forget that in their own eyes those artists were only making art work to sell, and prints being cheap to make were more likely to sell due to their low cost. Printmaking thus was a revolution that placed art in the hands of ordinary people.
