Safelight

A safelight is used in a photography darkroom so the photographer can see things but without light sensitive photographic paper being exposed.

Safelights can use different filters to change it's color to the appropriate one for the type of photographic paper you have.

You should position the safe light above your main work bench area in the darkroom, however it should be at least 4 to 6 feet away from where you have yoru photography paper situated.

You should always ensure that use the right type of safelight for your particular type of photographic paper. This is very important, the manufactuer will specify what filter to use on the packaging. The most commonly used filters are Amber and Red.

Darkroom Safelights can be purchased from any good Photography Supplies Store or for more information about working in a dark room see: Darkroom Setup List.
